Placement Testing
The NC Diagnostic Assessment for Placement Testing (NC DAP) computerized tests are given to all students who are entering a major/program with a State Board of Community Colleges approved GPA or who are taking courses with a developmental prerequisite. The tests include reading, English, writing, and math. Students take certain tests, or the whole sequence, depending upon their program, course choices, or high school GPA. Students may be exempt from placement testing by meeting one of the following requirements:
- Transfer credits in English, math and one college-approved reading intensive course.
- Satisfactory SAT, ACT or Accuplacer scores.
- Satisfactory COMPASS or ASSET test scores (tests must have been taken at a regionally accredited higher education institution on or after Feb. 1, 2007).
- Completion of NC DAP tests at a regionally accredited higher education institution.
- Completion of developmental coursework at a regionally accredited higher education institution with a grade of "P," “C,” or higher.
Determination of which placement test(s) a student can exempt will occur during the transcript evaluation and advisement process. This practice also applies to a student readmitted to CCC&TI.
Placement Retest Policy
Students may retest under the following guidelines:
- Evidence of at least ten hours of formal review in the Academic Support Center or documented completion of college-approved Placement Test Review course(s).
- A fee of $2.00 per test.
- Only one retest per subject allowed in a one-year period.
Once enrolled in a developmental course, students may not retest until the end of the course.
