Massage Therapy

This course is designed to prepare students for the certification examination required for the North Carolina licensure application process. Through class work and practical “hands-on” training, students obtain a solid foundation for professional practice as an entry-level Massage Therapist. Upon successful completion of the course, the student is eligible to sit for the certification exam and apply for state licensure in North Carolina.

The Massage Therapy module includes Anatomy and Physiology, Body Mechanics, Business, Certification Exam Prep, Chair Massage, Communication, CPR, Deep Tissue Massage, Documentation and Assessment, East Asian Theory, Ethics, Hydrotherapy, Hygiene and Standard Precautions, Indications and Contraindications, Introduction to Chakras, Introduction to Cupping, Introduction to Reflexology, Joint Mobility and Stretching, Kinesiology, NC Board meeting, NC Laws and Regulations, Orthopedic Assessment, Pathophysiology, Somatic Psychology, Special Populations, Sports/Orthopedic Massage, Stone Massage, Student Clinics, Swedish Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, and Wellness and Self Care.

Admission Requirements:

• Introduction to Health Services Orientation
• Reading placement test
• Mandatory orientation session
• Must be 18 years of age
• High school diploma or high school equivalency
• Government-issued photo ID – name must match Social Security card
• Social Security card – name must match government-issued photo ID
• Completed admission packet

Note: Students who successfully complete Massage Therapy training at CCC&TI will receive three (3) points toward competitive admission into the Physical Therapy Assistant program at CCC&TI.

Medication Aide

This course is designed to prepare Certified Nursing Assistants with the skills required by the State of North Carolina to practice as a Medication Aide in long-term care/skilled-nursing facilities within the state of North Carolina. Course topics include:

• Safe and accurate administration of medications via the following routes: oral, eye, ear, nasal, topical, inhalant, nebulizer, vaginal, and rectal.
• Medical asepsis, hand hygiene, terminology, and legal implications.

Students are not taught: IM, IV, subcutaneous, injections or administration of meds via G-tubes.

Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the state examination in order to become listed on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry.

Admission Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age
• High school diploma or high school equivalency
• Current listing with the Division of Health Service Regulation as a Nurse Aide I with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect or misappropriation of property
• Proof of completion of a minimum 75-hour, state-approved Nurse Aide I course
• Social Security card – name must match government-issued photo ID
• Government-issued photo ID – name must match Social Security card

Mental Health Technician

Students must be a current Nurse Aide I with proof of valid NC Nurse Aide Registry and have high school diploma or equivalent.

Nurse Aide I

The Nurse Aide I course prepares students to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for the elderly and other adults. Emphasis is placed on the aging process. Topics covered include safety, restorative care, personal and functional diseases/disorders, communication, patient’s rights, nutrition management, and elimination. CPR (Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association) instruction, competency and certification are incorporated into course curriculum. Students are required to successfully complete all segments of the course including classroom, lab skills practice, and clinical hours in order to receive a certificate of course completion.

After successfully completing all course components, the student is eligible to apply online to sit for the state exam, whereas he/she must successfully pass a two-part written and skills state competency examination before being listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry with the Division of Health Service Regulation.

Admission Requirements:

• Social Security card – name must match government-issued photo ID
• Government-issued photo ID – name must match Social Security card
• Proof of immunizations completed by health care provider. Records may be obtained from the last school attended or current/past health care providers and must include:

- Td (tetanus) / Tdap every 10 years

- 2 Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) or positive titer

- 2 Varicella (chicken pox) or positive titer

- Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) (be current, negative or documentation of negative chest x-ray)

- Hepatitis B series / Declination

- Influenza (Flu) vaccine current through flu season

- COVID-19 vaccine

- Non-certified background checks - 1 year

Note: Students who successfully complete Nurse Aide I training at CCC&TI, will receive one (1) point toward competitive admission into the Physical Therapy Assistant program at CCC&TI and 10 points toward competitive admission into the Radiography program at CCC&TI.

Nurse Aide Refresher

This 48-hour course is designed to refresh the student's knowledge of Nurse Aide l theory and skills. Students are provided with a comprehensive review that will better prepare them to successfully pass the written and skills examination required by North Carolina for relisting. The Nurse Aide I Candidate Handbook is provided as the basis for skill demonstration, practice, and proficiency.  

Admission Requirements:

• Proof of completion of a minimum 75-hour state approved Nurse Aide l course
• Proof of an unencumbered Nurse Aide I listing that has expired within the past three years
• Documented proof of any name changes since initial/previous listing
• Government-issued photo ID - First and Last Names must match Social Security card
• Non-laminated Social Security card - First and Last names must match the government-issued photo ID

You do not qualify for this course:

• If It has been longer than three years since your registry expired
• If you have taken the NNAAP test three times since your CNA course and failed. (See the NC Nurse Aide l candidate handbook for Eligibility)

Who can attend a Refresher Course?

This course is designed for individuals who:

• Have an expired NC Nurse Aide I listing with no substantiated findings or who have successfully completed a NC Nurse Aide I Program from an accredited institution (minimal 75 hour course) within the last three years. Students who have attempted and failed the State Exam three times are ineligible for this course.
• Have a current Nurse Aide I listing from another state with no substantiated findings
• Have an expired out-of-state listing with no substantiated findings or a successful completion of a Nurse Aide I Program from an out-of-state accredited institution within the last three years
• Individuals who have received and approved Training Waiver from NC DHSR. Students must present the Waiver when registering for the class
  • The Waiver eligibility list and application are found under Forms at the Health Care Personnel Education and Credentialing Section of the NC DHSR website

A certificate of completion from the institution and a copy of a previous CNA listing with no findings must be presented when registering.

Additional requirements for the first day of class:

• Non-laminated Social Security Card
• Valid Drivers license (First and last names must match on SS card and DL)
• Students must wear scrubs to class. The color is up to the student.

Nurse Aide l Requirements

1. Photo ID (government issued; current, name must match social security card) 

2. Social Security Card (signed; name must match photo ID, and cannot be laminated) 

3. Immunization Records - MUST HAVE the following immunizations documented: 

     • DPT (3-5 doses) or Tetanus Booster or Tdap within past 10 years 

     • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) (2 doses/ positive blood titer) 

     • Influenza (flu) (1 dose annually during flu season)

     • Varicella (chicken pox) (2 doses or blood titer=/>1.09) 

     • Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) - current, negative, or documentation of (negative) chest x-ray 

     • Hepatitis B - (3 shots OR Positive Hepatitis B titer OR Declination) 

     • Covid Vaccine (clinic site requirement) 

4. Reading Placement Test Score form (given to you at end of Intro to Health Care Services class)

5. Non-Certified Criminal Background Check – must be within 6 months of clinical date (Clerk of Court office in your county of residence – one year)

Note: If you are planning to enroll in nursing school, this course MAY NOT meet the required pre-requisite for the school you are applying to. You are encouraged to research this before registering.

Phlebotomy

Phlebotomy prepares students to draw blood specimens from patients to be analyzed. Class/lab covers topics such as equipment maintenance, communication skills, proper selection of venipuncture sites, the care of blood specimens, data entry, as well as clerical duties associated with record keeping. Clinical provides “hands on” experience with specimen collections in an assigned venue. Upon successful completion, the student receives a course certificate and is prepared to sit for a national certification examination through the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT).

• 18 years of age
• High school diploma or high school equivalency
• Social security card – must match government issued photo ID
• Government issued photo ID – must match social security card
• Criminal background check and drug screen
• Proof of immunizations completed by health care provider. Records may be obtained from the last school attended or current/past health care providers and must include:

- Td (tetanus) / Tdap every 10 years

- 2 Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) or positive titer

- 2 Varicella (chicken pox) or positive titer
