Counseling Services
CCC&TI provides either directly, or through collaboration and referral, a variety of academic and employment services, as well as both career counseling and brief personal counseling. These services are designed to promote student learning and reduce barriers to attaining personal, academic, and career goals. Services include academic advising, career, and personal counseling by professional counselors, advisors, and the provision of educational workshops and resources on a variety of topics such as time management, test anxiety, self-care, domestic violence, and substance abuse, among others. Referrals to external services and support for any of the above topics may be arranged as necessary.
Counselors are available on the Caldwell and Watauga campuses, both day and evening. Although appointments are preferred, walk-ins are welcome as staffing permits. Referrals to external private counselors or mental health providers may be made for students in need of support beyond our “scope of practice.” The CCC&TI Foundation may also provide funds to help pay for a portion of external counseling through the Counseling Referral Program (CRP). Students in urgent need of personal counseling when no college counselor is available may contact an on-call mental health professional toll-free through Vaya Health at 1-800-849-6127. In cases of potential injury or psychiatric emergency students should contact 911.
Additional career and employee development activities, as well as personal enrichment opportunities are offered throughout the year in various formats. Career assessment and counseling services are provided both by individual appointment or through career development workshops as needed. The Counseling Department also works closely with our Career Connections center to provide more robust employment services. Students seeking additional employment assistance may also contact the NCWorks Career Planning and Placement Center (828-759-4680), in Lenoir, or the NCWorks Career Center in Boone (828-265-5385). Students may also utilize resource links from the Counseling Services pages on the college website.
