Industrial Sewing

This course is designed to give students an understanding in the basic skills and techniques necessary to be an industrial sewer. The student will be trained in the manufacturing concepts, tools, safety, and the communication skills that will help prepare them for a career as a sewer in various manufacturing settings. Emphasis is placed on machine operation, setup and maintenance, threading, sewing straight lines, corners, curves and welts. Upon successful completion, students should be able to set up and operate a variety of industrial sewing machines.

Upholstery

This course is designed to provide the basic knowledge and skills necessary to become a furniture upholsterer. Furniture Upholstery covers the basic skills and fundamentals of upholstered furniture construction, including seat construction, inside upholstery and outside upholstery. Topics include safety, terminology, proper use of tools, furniture quality, problem solving, and maintenance. Introduction of advanced skills will include complex fabrics and stripes, application of skirts and decorative trims, and channeling and tufting. Upon successful completion, students should be able to become employed as an entry-level upholstery.

All Furniture Technology Institute’s courses include core skills training in upholstery manufacturing concepts tools and safety and soft skills training in problem-solving and critical thinking.
