Associate in Science (A10400)
The Associate in Science degree shall be granted for a planned program of study consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit (SHC) of college transfer courses. Within the degree program, the institution shall include opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and the basic computer use. The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) and the Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (ICAA) enables North Carolina community college graduates of two-year associate in science programs who are admitted to constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina and to Signatory Institutions of North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities to transfer with junior status. Community college graduates must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in order to transfer with a junior status. Courses may also transfer through bilateral agreements between institutions.

ACA-122 IS REQUIRED TO BE TAKEN IN THE FIRST SEMESTER FOR ALL COLLEGE TRANSFER STUDENTS.

Two unduplicated courses from two subject areas are required.
Social/Behavioral Sciences (6 SHC)
Select two courses from two different disciplines.
Mathematics (8 SHC)
Take two of the following courses:
Students may not receive credit for the combination of MAT 263 and MAT 271.
Natural Science (8 SHC)
Select 8 semester hours from the following courses, including accompanying lab work (if applicable):
Take one group.
Students may not receive credit for the combination of BIO 110 and BIO 111.
Additional General Education Hours (11 SHC)
Select an additional 11 semester hour credit courses from courses classified as general education within the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement. Students should select these courses based on their intended major and transfer institution
Other Required Hours (15 SHC)
An additional 14 SHC of courses should be selected from courses classified as pre-major, elective or general education courses within the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement. Students should select these courses based on their intended major and transfer university.
