Counseling Services

CCC&TI provides either directly, or through collaboration and referral, a variety of academic counseling services, including career counseling and brief personal counseling and referral. Services within the Counseling and Disability Services department are designed to promote student learning and reduce barriers to attaining personal, academic, and career goals. Service areas within this department include career and personal counseling, academic advising, and disability support accommodations. Referrals to professional, external counselors or mental health providers may be made for students in need of support beyond our scope of practice. The CCC&TI Foundation may provide funds to help pay for a portion of that supportive counseling through the Counseling Referral Program (CRP).

Counselors are available on the Caldwell and Watauga campuses, both day and evening. Although an appointment is preferred, walk-ins are welcome as staffing permits. Students in urgent need of counseling services at a time when no college counselor is available may contact an on-call mental health professional toll-free through Vaya Health at 1.800.849.6127. They can also contact the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988 via text, phone call, or web chat. In cases of risk of injury or psychiatric emergency, students should contact 911.

CCC&TI abides by all the parameters of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Under FERPA requirements, a student has to sign a release form in Student Services if that student wants to allow counselors to share educational information with any individuals other than those who are specifically related to the student’s educational benefit.

Students who are unsure/undecided about their career path may contact Counseling & Disability Services for a career assessment. Career counseling involves receiving a personalized review of a student’s personality, interests, values, and success factors.

Additional enrichment opportunities are provided by Counseling & Disability Services in various formats throughout the academic year.
