Nurse Aide Refresher

Nurse Aide I knowledge of personal care and nursing assistant skills are reviewed. Skills are demonstrated by the instructor then students are encouraged to practice in our lab setting. The North Carolina Nurse Aide I Candidate Handbook is provided as the basis for the skills review. Upon successful completion, the student will be better prepared to apply for and successfully pass the two-part written and skills examination required by North Carolina for relisting.

  

Who is Eligible?

This course is designed to update individuals and prepare them for the NC Nurse Aide l Written and Skills Exams. Eligibility for this class includes students who:

• Are currently listed on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry but are not prepared for renewal due to unfulfilled work requirements, etc. 

• Have successfully completed a state approved training program within 3 years of the first day of the Refresher class 

• Have an expired Nurse Aide registry for not greater than 3 years of the first day of the Refresher class. 

• Hold a state recognized unencumbered health care credential -CNA, EMT, EMT-P, CMA, RMA, RN, LPN from any state

• Are military personnel and have documented medical/corpsman training

• Have an expired out-of-state listing with no substantiated findings or a successful completion of a Nurse Aide I Program from an out-of-state accredited institution within the last 3 years.

A certificate of completion from the institution and a copy of a previous CNA listing with no findings must be presented when registering.

 

Additional requirements for the first day of class:

  • Non-laminated Social Security Card
  • Valid Drivers license (First and last names must match on SS card and DL)
  • Students must wear scrubs to class. The color is up to the student.

Successful completion of this 48 hour class:

  • Students must pass a written exam with a grade of 72 or better.
  • Students must pass a skills exam comparable to state testing.
  • Students' absence from class must not exceed 4 hours total for the duration of the course. This includes tardies. 

Upon successful completion of this NA I Refresher class, students will be eligible to register for the State written and skills exam.  

Fees:

Course fee: $I27.00 and a Student manual must be purchased from the CCC&TI bookstore.
