Developmental Education

Developmental education bridges the gap between students’ current academic skills and those needed for college-level coursework. It is a personalized pathway to success, offering detailed instruction and support to ensure students are well-prepared for their academic journey. The NCCCS Developmental Education framework allows colleges to set high school grade point average (GPA) thresholds within the provided parameters of a corequisite model, a prerequisite model, or a hybrid model.

CCC&TI has adopted a prerequisite model of developmental education with an unweighted high school GPA threshold of 2.8. Students with an unweighted high school GPA of 2.8 or higher are considered college ready. Students without a high school GPA or with an unweighted high school GPA of less than 2.8 may demonstrate college readiness by successfully completing one or more developmental courses or through any of the measures described in 6.2 (General Admissions Procedures).

If deficiencies are found in one area, a counselor/advisor will help students select an appropriate course in order to meet the necessary program requirements and /or course prerequisites. Students are encouraged to complete developmental courses immediately upon enrollment. Developmental studies course will not count towards graduation.
